Woodpeckers Woodland Adventure sessions
Throughout each week all little Acorns will have the opportunity to explore the local environment; from trips to the neighbouring farm to meet the chickens to testing their strength and skills at the village Recreation Ground or digging and tending to our vegetables at the Allotment.
However on Monday afternoons our Acorns get to enjoy Woodpeckers- our Woodland Learning Experience. Led by enthusiastic staff our activities can include anything from pond dipping and potion making to den building! During these sessions your child will begin to identify trees, insects and flowers, explore different ways of making natural art, begin to understand the importance of caring for our environment as well as enjoying stories and songs in our log circle.
Squirrel Sessions
During our afternoon Squirrel Sessions, those children who will be rising to Primary school the following September get the opportunity to join in with some stimulating activities. As well as games to encourage independence (putting on PE kit, coats and shoes) and an introduction to phonics and number songs, our Squirrels activities also include Yoga Adventures or Dance & Creative Movement sessions based on our favourite stories, led by our trained children’s yoga and dance teacher. In addition to these, your child also has the opportunity to investigate some simple science ideas such as light & shadows, sound, electricity and even some exciting investigations such as slime making and volcanic eruptions. In addition to all of this fun, Squirrels are also be able to choose a reading book to take home and share with their grown ups, much like they will when they reach school.

Library Bus
Once a month, on a Tuesday, Acorns will get a visit from the Wiltshire Library Bus. This library service will allow the staff to collect together some interesting “topic” books as well as books to develop your child’s current interests and ideas. Acorns children will also be able to experience the library bus in small groups too, enjoying selecting new books and a story time with their key person or friends.
